Dell UltraSharp 2009WFP monitor review
Posted: August 28th, 2008 | Author: Jon | Filed under: Technology | Tags: 2009wfp, dell, flatpanel, monitor, review | 3 Comments »As promised a few weeks back here’s my short review of the Dell UltraSharp 2009WFP monitor I recently purchased.
The first thing I noticed after switching it on for the first time was how much brighter it was compared to my old 19″ CRT. I hadn’t realised how bad my old monitor had become over the years. The monitor has 4 built in USB 2.0 ports which are a nice touch, makes plugging in memory sticks a bit easier when your PC is under the desk like mine. It comes with a height adjustable stand which was a major selling point for me personally. Due to the height adjustable stand the monitor can also be rotated 90 degrees, while it makes reading a long document slightly easier I haven’t really used it at all and I don’t see me doing so any time soon.
The resolution is an excellent 1680 x 1050 which is more than adequate for my needs. I had been looking at 22″ & 24″ monitors originally but the UltraSharp versions of these weren’t in my price range and now I’ve decided I’d rather have 2 of these monitors sat on my desk. It has both DVI & VGA connections allowing me to plug both my PC’s into it which is very handy. It also comes with Dell’s 3-year Premium Panel Exchange service which gives you peace of mind when it comes to dead pixels.
Overall I’m very impressed with my new purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a new monitor.
Hi,
Thanks for this review. I’m considering bying this monitor too. But still I wonder if this type of monitor, with TN screen, will fit my needs: picture treatments (photoshop, etc…).
Can you please tell if the color rendering is good enough, when you’re sitting just 50cm from the screen ?
Also: did you try to watch movies with it and are they correct too (sitting in a couch 2m away for example)
Thank you.
One of the features of this monitor is 102% Colour Gamut however I don’t do much image editing so I can’t really comment on this monitor’s performance compared to others. To my untrained eye the colour rendering is excellent.
I have watched a movie on it but only at my desk and it too looked excellent.
I’ve just noticed Dell UK are offering a deal on this monitor again so now’s your chance to get one!
It’s not as good as the 2007WFP, in fact it would appear to be a cost downed 2007WFP. It has fewer connections, cheaper feeling controls, less controls and at the moment I’m struggling to get my (dell) laptop to see it. If you are prepared to spent the time manually fiddling with the RGB balance and other settings the colours are OK, until you move your head, then they are different. It’s got a much narrower viewing angle than the 2007. It does look to be a sharper screen though.
